Mycestro-The-Next-Generation-3D-Mouse

Designed by Nick Mastandrea, Mycestro is the patent-pending creation that will make your couch potato dreams come true. You wear it on your index finger and control it with your thumb, so that you have full command over your computer even if your fingers are too fat to dial. Mycestro works fluidly with gaming, word processing, designing, by registering your finger movements as three dimensional commands. It's just a touch more practical for daily use than those robotic dresses from Anouk Wipprecht. Mycestro is currently getting lots of attention on Kickstarter and has been featured on Engadget.

Don't get too excited and rush to the market: this genetically modified egg is but a concept from the mind of designer Dominic Wilcox. In a recent exhibition in Italy, Wilcox presented his thoughts on the pros and cons of genetic modification. On the one hand, an egg genetically modified to resemble a cup for ease of eating would make breakfast more simple. On the other hand, is the chicken okay with that? Science has come a long way, fueled by curiosity and enabled by new technology. In South Korea, they can clone dogs now. Again, on the one hand a million puppies would be great. On the other hand, how long before they clone a million Lee Myung-baks? Food for thought.

Mike Friton is a veteran shoemaker for Nike with three decades of experience in designing what goes between us and the ground. However, Friton has a particular set of skills that you might not associate with designing sneakers – Mike is also a paper sculptor and weaver. Mike beta-tests his designs by first sculpting paper in the way he wants material to move, and goes to the loom to test the flexibility of differnt patterns.

teloporter_002

So they haven't invented teleporters yet (that we know of). But they have invented the "Tel-O-Porter" - Tel Aviv's energy efficient new method of transportation. These aptly-colored bikes come with an attachable cargo bin that can be taken on and off, so you don't have to drag your bike indoors or through crowded streets while shopping. Part of the city's "Tel-O-Fun" system, the bikes can also be rented separately. Finally, an alternative to riding your bike home with heavy bags on the handlebars. Well, only if you live in Tel Aviv, that is.

pinokio1

Inspired by Luxo Jr., a two–minute film by Pixar where two animated desk lamps interact with one another and contemplate fun, Pinokio is the brainchild of creative team Shanshan Zhou, Adam Ben-Dror and Joss Doggett, who have brought a lamp to life. Pinokio is an adventurously modified Anglepoise lamp (first designed in 1932 by George Carwadine) that watches you work and moves playfully in front of you, half mimic, half annoying younger sibling who wants to play with you when you've got too much stuff to do.

KelvinDoe This will put you to shame, couch potato. This fifteen year old prodigy from Sierra Leone is a selt-taught engineer, and he's learned to invent objects simply from collecting old junk from the trash. Designed by Vivien Muller, this attractive hybrid of technology and art has been in the works since 2008. The project hopes to be completed with the help of Kickstarter.

"The Spark Socket screws into any standard lightbulb socket, and connects to the internet over the Wi-Fi connection in your home, so that you can control your lights from a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Spark can make your life simpler, more streamlined and — just maybe — a little more fun."

This back-up battery with hand turbine power generator would be very useful during a power outage, like the one we experienced after Hurricane Sandy. This will definitely be on my Christmas list.
