Maureen McCormick (born August 5, 1956) is an American actress. She is best known for playing the character Marcia Brady on the television sitcom The Brady Bunch.
McCormick was born in Encino, California to Irene and William McCormick. She began her work as a performer early on, winning the Baby Miss San Fernando Valley Beauty Pageant. Not long after, she was cast in a television commercial for Mattel's "Baby Pattaburp" doll, which led to another role in a commercial, for the company's "Chatty Cathy" doll.
Soon she was cast in the play Wind It Up And It Breaks at the La Jolla Playhouse. After landing small roles in such television shows as Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Honey West, The Farmer's Daughter, and My Three Sons.
In 1969, the defining moment of McCormick's career came. She was chosen among over a thousand children to play the eldest of the three daughters in the television series The Brady Bunch, a sitcom about a blended family. The show aired from 1969 to 1974. Reruns of the show continued to be played for decades following its last season, resulting in a multigenerational fanbase.
When The Brady Bunch ended, McCormick made guest appearances on Happy Days, Donny & Marie, Love Boat, Vega$, Streets of San Francisco and Fantasy Island. Following those roles, she was cast in supporting roles in the films A Vacation In Hell (1979), Skatetown, U.S.A. (1979), The Idolmaker (1980), and Return to Horror High (1987). She also appeared in The Brady Bunch Hour, The Brady Girls Get Married (1981), and A Very Brady Christmas (1988).
Since just after the final season of The Brady Bunch, McCormick battled drug addiction, depression, and bulimia, seriously affecting her career. She was passed over for roles in Midnight Express (1978) and Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). She released her autobiography in the fall of 2008 and it debuted at number four on The New York Times Bestseller List. She married Michael Cummings in 1985 anshe confronted her addictions and her depression with stints in rehabilitation clinics and alternative therapy.
In recent years, McCormick has appeared on many reality television and talk shows including Celebrity Fit Club (which she won), Gone Country, Outsiders Inn, Access Hollywood, The Howard Stern Show, Good Day L.A., Paula's Party and The Today Show.
