Happy birthday Clint Eastwood!

Clint Eastwood (May 31, 1930) is an American film and television actor whose work has become synonymous with the American western genre, having gotten his first major break on the television series Rawhide, and then starring in a series of "spaghetti westerns" directed by Sergio Leone, including A Fistful Of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good the Bad and the Ugly (1966). Eastwood's frequent characterization as a rugged outlaw earned him international popularity as well as critical acclaim. He went on to star in the Dirty Harry franchise, in which Eastwood played San Francisco Police Department Inspector, "Dirty" Harry Callahan. Eastwood is also known for his work as a director, which includes films like Unforgiven, Mystic River, and Million Dollar Baby.

Clint Eastwood was born to Clinton Eastwood Sr. and Ruth Eastwood during the Great Depression. Eastwood grew up in Oakland and was called to join the Army Special Services around the age of 20. After his military duty, Eastwood moved to LA in 1954 and took a screen test, signing with Universal Studios for 75 dollars a week. His big break came when he landed the role of Rowdy Yates on Rawhide, which would run for eight seasons.

After Rawhide, Eastwood took on what would become one of his most iconic roles of his entire career, the "Man with No Name" of Sergio Leone's epic films, featuring the American Old West. Following his success as an actor, Eastwood began delving into film direction, beginning with the critically acclaimed Charlie Parker biopic, Bird (1988). His 1992 film Unforgiven won an Academy Award for Best Picture, and he subsequently starred in and directed A Perfect World (1993), The Bridges of Madison County (1994), and Absolute Power (1997).

In 2000, Eastwood directed and starred in Space Cowboys, alongside James Garner. In recent years, Eastwood has focused on his work as a director, and has released films including Mystic River (2003), Million Dollar Baby (2004) and two films centered around WWII: Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima (both 2006). For these works, Clinton has received many accolades, including the Life Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild in LA, and several Oscar nominations. He starred and directed in Gran Torino in 2008 and directed Invictus in 2009 and J. Edgar in 2011.
