"Well, I play Jews and parrots. Parrots are how I've branched out." -Gilbert Gottfried

Happy birthday Gilbert Gottfried!

Gilbert Gottfried (February 28, 1955) is an American comedian and voice actor who is known for his stage persona which involves a grating speaking voice and squinting. His particular stage voice is perhaps best remembered as the voice of Iago, the parrot in Disney's Aladdin. Gottfried was a cast member of Saturday Night Live between 1980 and 1981, during which he was not known to use his now trademark screeching voice. Gottfried appeared in the Problem Child movies as Mr. Peabody and has done considerable voiceover acting for children's television and film.

Gottfried began doing stand-up around New York when he was just fifteen years old. He was hired onto Saturday Night Live in 1980, but he received very little time on the air, and in one instance, was made to play a corpse.

Gottfried has voiced characters on The Fairly OddParents and Ren and Stimpy, and has been the voice of Iago for each Aladdin film. He is the voice of Digit in Cyberchase on PBS, and has appeared as himself in two episodes of Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist.

Gottfried is a frequent guest of the Howard Stern Show. He has participated in the Comedy Central roasts of Bob Saget, Joan Rivers, David Hasselhoff, Donald Trump, and Roseanne Barr.
