It turns out that Santa might not live in the North Pole, but actually comes from being trained by the  Santa School in Albion, New York. In 1961, Alfred Eisenstaedt, photographer for LIFE magazine traveled to Charles Howard's Santa Claus school (still open today, in Michigan), to capture some candids of the 'students' learning how to bring joy and cheer during the Christmas season. Graduation from the school allowed each Santa to be gainfully employed at a local department store as the grantor of all your winter wishes, so it takes a certain heft.
