Designed by Vaughn McQuarrie, the Palm Beach house (located in Auckland, not Florida!) is a sunlit beachhouse with lots of windows and terraces for access to the outdoors. In order to minmize waste, the architects used factory sheet sizes which could be carried by hand and installed directly in place rather than cut and shaped. Laminated timber is used throughout, also put in place on the building site, and provides a low key, natural feel to the home. The Palm Beach house also includes a drawbridge which separates the home from the ground, so inhabitants can feel as though they're living among the treetops.
