In celebration of a space program which refuses to quit in the face of absurd Mayan prophecy (in the words of Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, "The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it"), we bring you the lighter side of space (meta joke!) in this high fashion photo shoot with real-life Russian cosmonauts, photographed by Arthur Elgort.

In these photographs from a 1999 of Russian Vogue, supermodel Natalia Semanova mingles with a team of astronauts at Star City, home the the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. According to Elgort, shooting these photographs at Star City was a cakewalk: The editor was a very pretty girl and pretty girls get what they want. I don't remember any security or anything, we just walked right in."
